Bottom 3: Alif, Azfar, Farah: Menanti Hukuman?

Paul – I’m surprised it’s taken this long for Azfar to finally found his style; this great combination of commercial and ethnic Malay. And now, it’s a shame that he can’t be with us anymore.

Syafinaz– I tak setuju with Paul. I think it was expected for him to be one of the bottom 3, maybe doa dia tak dimakbulkan but I’m confident that he knows what to do. He found himself and I hope he will continue perfecting his art and akan teruskan perjuangan.

Ning – Saya rasa Azfar adalah artis yang berkebolehan, malam nih you terkeluar, doesn’t mean you are not going to make it. Kalah atau menang, your career has just begun.

ALIF

AIN’T NO OTHER MAN (CHRISTINA AGUILERA):

Syafinaz– Last week kita ada Alif Buble’ this week kita ada Alif Aguilera pulak ye. And the Kangkang King is back! Anyways, I like watching you. Ada break, be careful needs to be more accurate. Performance very entertai Ning.

Ning – Alif , are you nervous? How do you feel in the outfit? You look very good tonight. Fans kat sini were waiting for you to go to them and do something, but you didn’t fully use that. They were waiting for you to hype them up and jump up. Maybe in your next performance you can do that.

Paul – Either your fans have some sick sense of humor or your enemies were at work, but who or why did they chose this song for you? Anyways, I thought that was a decent effort and you return the favor and made it looked like fun on stage. And you made the song into a pretty good performance.

THE REMEDY (JASON MRAZ):

Syafinaz– Saya tahu saya cakap performance Alif tadi fun, but it’s also has become quite predictable; you kangkang, you jalan and the same thing every time. I want you to surprise me, so please do something different next time.

Ning – Alif, why are you standing like that? Macam bongkok je, as a performer you have to stand up straight and not bend so much, tempo ada lari sikit, musicians pun knew about it, did you? Don’t stand like that ok, look gagah sikit or your voice won’t come out.

Paul – That was going backwards. You were thinking of something else. Elimination of chorus, it was boring, not interesting at all. Chorus build up the song, but you didn’t go. No! Nothing – Ok, I heard that last week I’ve insulted and hurt your fans and family when I said I didn’t know who actually voted for you. I received cards and comments about it, well, I’m SORRY, I didn’t mean to offend or insult them with that remark – I meant to insult YOU!

FARAH
TREES (MARTY CASEY):

Syafinaz– Farah suka tak lagu ni? Kalau tak suka pun kena kata ye kan pasal peminat Farah yang pilih. Dari minggu ke minggu berapa kali saya dah kata, you need to work on your lower notes, I tak dengar voice you masa starting. And your mike holding technique, you punya suara I tak dengar pasal the mike, so many times dah kena tunjuk. Kalau badan you pusing, mike pun kena la pusing. Pasal kalau tak pegang betul-betul, sia-sia je tak dengar suara. You bila voice naik tinggi, I think you have no problem, Cuma bila you nak lower kan, you ada masalah.

Ning – I think you know yourself, your weakness and such. You make full use of the space, your fans enjoyed your performance and you overcome the competition.

Paul – I thought it sounded a bit underdeveloped, not really that effective. You are not sweet enough to be hot and you are not naughty enough to be pop rock. So, my question is, where do we go from here? I’m worried because I don’t know what to do?


UNFAITHFUL (RIHANNA):

*Farah had to sing twice because of technical difficulties in SP2.

Syafinaz– You should consider yourself lucky to get a second chance because your first time memang err…not good. Ok, 1st thing 1st, you look uncomfortable out there, is it because of the mike stand or something else? Farah, why are you nervous? You cannot keep saying that, this is a competition. You have to over come that. SustaiNing note second song was not much better. You need to sing with more conviction, you didn’t maksudkan apa yang you nyanyi. I didn’t feel the full effect.

Ning – You should have been standing, not duduk. What Syafinaz said makes sense. I just wish that I understood what you were singing, because that’s my favourite song, but you didn’t really do that well. I’m sorry…

Paul – You sang it way too deep, you know there are certain songs that when you sing requires the singer to undergo some sort of life experience to bring it to life. You need to suffer, to feel hurt, but you are not like that. You’re parents didn’t bring you up that way, you have your family and it’s not working for the song. You didn’t get the right upbringing for this song. I can’t think of a worst way for you to bow out of this competition, I hope not?

SUKI

KAULAH SEGALANYA (RUTH SAHANAYA):
Syafinaz– You wonder tak kenapa fans pilih lagu ini? What’s the motif? Mungkin your fans nak tengok perasaan Suki macam orang bercinta? One thing for sure, intonation, banyak flat so be careful. Anyway, you also have to be careful masa ope Ning and tengah ada flat. Saya tahu Suki tahu pasal Suki belajar music, emosi kena perlu keluar dari lagu, so you have to show that facial expression semua.

Ning – Suki, I like you. You are very sweet tonight, you are graceful and what Syafinaz said is right because she just wants to make sure you don’t make any mistakes. The rendition is a bit different, it was ok although original is better.

Paul – I mean let’s face it, this is obviously not her genre, no way a love song ballad? This is not her brand, not her type. I thought it was a decent effort at the performance although this is not her strongest. I mean if you compare to Ruth, you have to wonder, can she belt out Kelly Clarkson, Alanis Morissette like you? I think not, I think you did a decent performance with that one.

CEPAT-CEPAT (JACLYN VICTOR):
Syafinaz– You looked like you enjoyed yourself, even the audience looked like it. I thought this was much better performance, this is a good song for you although I wouldn’t pick this to sing in a competition. But it actually sounded better than the first song. Voice projection tak dengar tapi nampak you enjoyed singing. Kena hati-hati dengan mike tuh ye.

Ning – Suki, you make it look easy. You have the star quality and you show us that tonight. You are not afraid of the crowd and the people, good.

Paul – I thought you didn’t really do anything! Last 10 seconds was decent, but before it was all silly! You have to get smarter about your vocal arrangement. Use the songs to develop your vocal so you’ll stand out and shine out there. I’m getting sick of this, you really need to get it out there. You can be this great, cheeky, naughty girl on stage, so be that person. It’s about time because Malaysia could use one.

FAIZAL

SUPERMAN (FIVE FOR FIGHTING):
Syafinaz– Well I’m hearing and seeing something different today. I like the tone of your voice, especially the ope Ning, Why was the mike so high up? Takde time to adjust? Overall, I like the whole performance.

Ning – Assalamualaikum Faizal. I think last time I talked to you was during the short seminar on the whole image and personality thing. And I must say that I’m very proud of you tonight! Siapa yang ajar awak buat gimmick using this lagu tonight? You should keep it up. But you shouldn’t close your eyes too much either. You should open them and focus on one direction. But I think you did well tonight.

Paul – I thought there were some special moments. I thought ok, this will be amazing, but you keep losing, fall flat and affected your voice, but you do have this voice for ballads. You’ve got all these lovely imperfections, these are what actually will work in your performance. It makes your singing more human and touches people’s hearts. I think this will work well for you when you go in the studio. Good!

RAIKAN CINTA (M. NASIR):
Syafinaz– Your intonation, very shaky, wrong different key there – where are you going? What happened? I tak dengar. You changed the arrangement to something rock but if you actually listen to the lirik, it’s very puitis ye. You have to mean what you say. I don’t like the performance!

Ning – Kakak pun disappointed. You are just too excited! Hilang dah the superman. Kalau you nervous, try counting 1,2,3, 4 till 10. Before you start you must relax yourself. That’s the only way. Thee singing wasn’t too good.

Paul – You know what I think? I think because we experienced the technical difficulties just now, Faizal thought, oh ok, this could be his chance so he should stage a comeback and win the crowd over with his energetic performance. He really did, although it was a bit overcompensated, it wasn’t that great. I don’t understand the lyrical quality of the song, after a while it got boring – like walking on a treadmill.

DAYANG

GEMILANG (JACLYN VICTOR):
Syafinaz– Saya tahu it’s not easy to sing this song. But you did a good job. You showed us that you don’t actually have to scream to be a good singer. Setiap penyanyi harus mempunyai kebolehan mewarna lagu-lagu tersendiri. Kita tak perlu sentiasa nyanyi high to prove that we can sing good, no, it’s not necessary. Dayang ada quality suara rendah yang cantik, you just have to perbaiki a little bit more, make it rounder, richer and fuller. It was a good performance.

Ning – Dayang, I don’t know, it feels weird to sit here and talk to you. Are you nervous? I don’t know? I don’t quite like the song that the fans have chosen for you. But you use them to your best opportunity and your strength. I was hoping for something different although you did that well.

Paul – I don’t know. I can’t see what you are doing, I mean you are not Jac but you also need to be inspiring to sing that song and I don’t think you were inspiring at all. People have high expectation and you didn’t make it at all. One more thing, I’m no fashion guru, but I thought the dress makes you look 4 months pregnant. It makes you look bigger than you are actually and you look like a Christmas Tree. I didn’t like it at all.

DANGEOUSLY IN LOVE (BEYONCE):
Syafinaz– Dayang you tengok apa monitor ke? Kenapa today intonation masing-masing ada masalah? Selalu tak ramai tapi hari nih banyak pulak! And Dayang usually tak pernah, tapi tadi ada juga. Dayang tertanya tak kenapa fans kasik Dayang lagu Beyonce/Destiny’s Child je? Direction memang dah ada and betul, memang sesuai dengan Dayang tapi kena pastikan juga originality. You have a great voice, baju cantik, body cantik, pakaian cantik, tapi kena perlu cari keaslian. Why everytime Beyonce? I just wondered why?

Ning – Dayang, you need to relax! I know you, you can do better than this. Dah cantik dah masa mula tadi tapi kat tengah ada lost a bit, ending nasib you dah dapat balik. I know you want to be the winner of One In A Million, you can do it.

Paul – When we see you sing and perform, you always deliver on expectation. It’s enough to satisfy limited number of people, limited number of time. And I have to say I might have a problem with your branding because in branding we have this mantra, “ Surprise & Delight”, which means you have to be unique and wow the viewers every time you are on stage. This kind of quality is prevalent in Malaysia, you need to do better in order to stay here for a long time and to cast that everlasting effect.
