Enya is one of the most accomplished female artists of all time. Quite simply the facts speak for themselves:
Since making her WEA debut in 1988 with ‘Watermark’, Enya has sold more than 65 million albums worldwide.
‘Watermark’ has since sold 10.5 million copies, and earned Enya two Brit Award nominations in 1989 for Best International Artist and Best International Newcomer.
The single, ‘Orinoco Flow’, was a UK #1 for three weeks and was a hit in every country it was released.
The 11.5 million selling album ‘Shepherd Moons’ (1991) went straight to the top of the UK album charts and stayed on the Billboard charts for 199 consecutive weeks.
1995’s ‘Memory Of Trees’ racked up more than 9 million sales and was followed by the ‘Best Of...’ collection, ‘Paint The Sky With Stars’ which has exceeded 12 million sales. These albums propelled Enya to the position of Ireland’s biggest-ever selling solo artist.
Her last album ‘A Day Without Rain’ has sold over 13 million copies worldwide. The album spent almost two years on the Billboard chart and went multi-Platinum in America, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Ireland, Japan, Singapore, Spain and Switzerland.
In 2001, Enya was the biggest selling artist in the world.
In 2002, Enya scooped three World Music Awards for Best Selling Female Artist, Best Selling Irish Artist and Best Selling New Age Artists.
Enya has won a total of three Grammy Awards, winning Best New Age Album for ‘Shepherd Moons’, ‘The Memory of Trees’ and ‘A Day Without Rain.’
Enya has also earned an Oscar nomination for Best Music (Song) and a Grammy nomination for Best Song Written For A Motion Picture, both in conjunction with her musical partners Nicky and Roma Ryan for the song ‘May It Be’, which was written and recorded for ‘Lord Of The Rings – The Fellowship Of The Ring’ at the personal request of director Peter Jackson.
‘May It Be’ won the Los Angeles Film Critics Association award for Best Song and was also nominated for a Hollywood Golden Globe Award.
‘Only Time’ topped the American, German and Japanese singles charts as well as a number of other European territories.
Enya’s ‘Song Of Boadicia’ was sampled by Marion Winans on his UK #1 and US Top 10 hit ‘I Don’t Wanna Know’.

Hi Malique...
Enya bukan best selling artiste in the world...sangat subjectivelah utk best selling artiste ni x kiralah utk tahun berapa..!! So what about those hot singers like Madonna, Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion ... mereka ni album sales over 100 million!!
But anyway saya pernah dengar lagu2 Enya ni through friend yang ada but belum ada lagi yang saya miliki....!
** I received reply email dari Francissca Peter about her latest album, album terbarunya adalah kompilasi lagu2 terbaik (Double Disc CD) yang bakal berada dipasaran tahun depan (date not sure yet). Setakat ni Fran dah record 2 lagu baru, katanya tunggu lagi 2 lagu. Cant wait for this truly talented diva!!! |
